The Jesus People...
An critical analysis of the Jesus People Movement in 1960s-70s America. In this essay, I examine work from three different musical artists who were active in the movement and show how the lyrics of their songs are emblematic of evangelical Christianity. Through this examination, I argue that while the Jesus People may have had the aesthetics of a subculture, their underlying ideologies do not qualify as countercultural.

An analytical examination of the integral functions of affect in two musical adaptations of the Gospels--the 2012 arena tour of Jesus Christ Superstar and the 1971 stage show and 1973 film adaptation of Godspell. Enchantment can be seen as a necessity for believing each show's premise, and examinations of each show's crucifixion sequence show the continued effectiveness of shock as an affective device.

By employing character design and color as nonverbal storytelling devices, and casting God in a way never before seen in film, Prince of Egypt builds on the foundational story from Exodus by extending the conflict to one between families as well as between nations.
